MARTINI® and Bodega 1900 Chef Albert Adria Collaborate to Create the Ultimate Aperitivo to Celebrate Race Weekend

The growing trend in aperitif culture comes to Barcelona

Hamilton, Bermuda - Today MARTINI®, one of the world’s most iconic Italian brands and the world’s leading vermouth and best-selling Italian sparkling wine, announced a collaboration with Bodega 1900 and renowned chef Albert Adria to create the ultimate aperitivo menu to celebrate this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix.

Deeply routed in Italian culture, the aperitivo moment is as much about socialising as it is about eating and drinking. In some cases, your drink is accompanied by a few bites. However the newest trend is a hybrid of aperitivo and dinner and this is featured in the Martini x Bodega 1900 collaboration.

“As the trend in vermouth accelerates, along with the growing interest in aperitif culture, Italian bitters and aperitivo menus are popping up at restaurants from London to Moscow” explained Giuseppe Gallo, Global Brand Ambassador, MARTINI. “Strictly speaking, an aperitivo is a drink before a meal which is meant to stimulate our appetite, preparing our system for the meal ahead. In Italy we call it aperitivo, in France they call it amuse bouche, in Greece it’s called mezze in Spain it's called hacer el vermut.”

Enjoyed mainly at sunset (typically between 5pm – 7pm ahead of your meal) it is usually accompanied by vermouth. Vermouth is a natural fit for this occasion as it acquires the qualities that help to stimulate the appetite. These qualities include as low alcohol content, a controlled sugar level and aromatics such as the wormwood plant which carries a bitter flavour profile considered to be an ‘opener’.

The MARTINI x Bodega 1900 Ultimate Aperitivo menu features a liquid bonbon and melon infused vermouth. The bonbon is made by preparing a caramel, to which is added Martini Rosso, black chocolate and orange peel. The melon dish is vacuum packed with Martini Bianco to compliment the sweetness of the fruit. It is accompanied by the restaurant’s unique vermouth that is a beautiful blend of MARTINI Gran Lusso and MARTNI Rosso.

On the collaboration, Albert Adria, founder Bodega 1900 said, “MARTINI couldn’t be a better companion for this project, we are built on the same principles. On one side we have Bodega 1900, a look-alike vermutería which is a tribute to the Bodegas from the early century. We pay homage to the romantic tradition of hacer el vermut. On the other side we have MARTINI, a brand with more than 150 years of history and with the shared values of respecting tradition but modernising aperitivo for a new generation.”
